2018 Park Naming Contest

The city of Farmington’s Parks & Recreation Commission launched its Park Naming Contest at the Community Expo Jan. 27.

“We value input from Farmington residents during the public park naming process,” said Parks & Recreation Director Randy Distad. “We want everyone to have a chance for their ideas to be heard.”

The contest is for a park within the new Regetta Fields Development located near the northwest intersection of Highway 50 and Flagstaff Avenue, south of the Farmington High School. Preliminary and final plats have been approved for a 61 single family lot development. Construction of the site will begin in the spring of 2018. Although the construction of the park site is a ways out, the park site will be around six acres when the surrounding area is developed. The commission wants to get a head start on the naming process.

The submissions will be reviewed by the Commission at its March 14 meeting. They will choose the park name winner at the meeting and forward the recommended park name to the Farmington City Council for approval. The winner will be notified after the Commission has made its selection for a park name. The park name winner will receive a bundle of prizes that includes a $25 Kwik Trip gift card, $10 Pizza Man gift certificate, 10-punch card to Schmitz-Maki Arena’s 2018-2019 open skate season, and much more! The full list of prizes can be found on the city’s website at farmingtonmn.gov along with the application form and directions for submitting. The deadline for submissions is February 28.
