Fall Hydrant Flushing Begins
Published on Oct 1, 2023 21:12

Public works starts fall fire hydrant flushing Monday, Oct. 2. The city flushes approximately 1,250 fire hydrants once in April and once in October.

During hydrant flushing, it is not unusual for residents to periodically experience discolored water, pressure changes, and/or an increased chlorine odor.

If discolored water is present, residents may correct the problem by running an outside faucet (without a hose attached) or cold-water faucets inside until the water runs clear. Residents are also encouraged to check the color of their water prior to doing laundry.
