Multi-Agency Assistance (MAAG)

The Farmington Police Department does not have it’s own stand-alone SWAT team, due to the size of the city. Farmington partners with other Dakota County agencies and field a multi-jurisdictional SWAT team known as the MAAG group, which was established in 1975. The team is led by its members, with its own rank structure, and is overseen by a governing board made up of representatives from each member agency.

The MAAG team is a part time team. What that means is that the officers assigned to MAAG do so in addition to their full time responsibilities with their home agency.  The Farmington Police Department currently has four personnel assigned to the team, one Patrol Sergeant, two Patrol Officers, and one School Resource Officer. Due to the high risk nature of SWAT work, each team member receives an average of about 200 hours of training per year on SWAT specific skills.

Crisis Negotiation Team (CNT)

The CNT is a branch of the MAAG team and is made up of officers specially trained in crisis and hostage negotiations.  Farmington has one officer assigned to this team.
