Farmington has a Mayor-Council form of government with a full time city administrator who is responsible for the day-to-day administrative operations of the city.
City Council
The Farmington City Council has the primary responsibility of ensuring that the city exercises its functions properly and within the law. The term of mayor is for four years; councilmembers are elected to four-year terms in alternating elections. Municipal elections are held in November of even-numbered years, the same time as federal, state, and county elections.
City Attorney
The law firm of Campbell Knutson, P.A. represents the City of Farmington by advising the City Council and staff on municipal legal questions and undertaking prosecution matters.
City Administrator
The city administrator is responsible to the Farmington City Council for the proper administration of all affairs of the city. They are appointed by a majority vote of the City Council for an indefinite period of time.
