Public Events and Outreach

Farmington Police Department is dedicated to serve the community through public events, education, and outreach programs. From the Citizen's Academy to Toys for Town, the department participates in events year-round to promote a safe community and create ties in the community. Citizen's Police Academy

The 2016 Citizen’s Police Academy graduated on July 6 at City Hall, following a six week course that met one evening each week. The academy learned about police work through wide range of topics that included the Police Department’s history, MAAG (SWAT) Team, police psychology, the Dakota County Drug Task Force, practical patrol experience, traffic stops, computer aided dispatching and how technology is used to improve police work. The group also toured the Dakota County Jail and Dakota Communications Center. The Farmington Police Department offers the course every other year. Information about the 2018 class will be available through the city’s website, social media, and publications.

National Police Week Open House

National Police Week Open House
May 18, 2017 from 3:00 to 7:00 p.m.
Farmington Police Department, 19500 Municipal Drive

In 1962, President John F. Kennedy signed a proclamation, which designated May 15 as Peace Officers Memorial Day and the week that the date falls on as Police Week. Decades later, the event known as National Police Week, has grown to a series of events, which attract thousands of survivors and law enforcement officers to our Nation’s Capital each year.

In recognition of National Police Week, the Farmington Police Department will hold an open house. Please join us for Police Department and MAAG Team vehicle tours, K-9 demonstrations, and more.
