Planning and Zoning

Planning is responsible for guiding development and regulating land use within the city of Farmington. Typical duties include:

  • Development and implementation of the city’s Comprehensive Plan

  • Provide professional advice, technical expertise and information support to other city departments, the Farmington Planning Commission and the Farmington City Council

  • Administers and enforces the city’s zoning and subdivision ordinances

  • Sign regulation

  • Assists in building permit review

  • Process land use applications such as conditional use permits and variances

  • Development review

  • Site plan review

  • Review and process annexation petitions and actively participates with neighboring townships to establish orderly annexation agreements

  • Provide counter service and general information to the public
